Recently, the CSEM Energy Storage Research Centre at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) completed a technology assessment of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), a study funded by armasuisse (Federal Office for Defence Procurement). It evaluates current testing procedures and specifications relevant for military applications of LIBs. The resulting report entitled Technologiefolgenabschätzung und Prüfrichtlinien von lithiumhaltigen Batterien (Technology assessment and testing procedures of lithium-ion batteries) is not only interesting for armasuisse and military logistics, but also for professionals involved in the purchase, transport, storage, application and disposal of LIBs.
Prof. Andrea Vezzini, head of the BFH-CSEM, is also deputy head of SCCER Mobility and coordinates Capacity Area A1.
