The BFH-CSEM Energy Storage Research Center (ESReC), one of the largest battery technology research platforms available to industrial R&D projects in Switzerland, is now fully operational.
The competence center ESReC from Bern University of Applied Sciences and CSEM, inaugurated in October 2014, successfully completed its construction phase in January 2015 and became fully operational as of February 2015. With over 45 cell-testing channels (5V, more than 2000A) and 14 battery pack-testing channels (100V, up to 600A) and several temperature chambers, the ESReC is one of the largest battery technology research platforms available to industrial R&D projects in Switzerland.
The ESReC is situated in a few steps away from the Biel train station at the INNOCAMPUS AG, also an application oriented research and development platform in the field of novel industrial technologies. The INNOCAMPUS AG currently counts as one of the strongest candidates to become the Swiss Innovation Park, an interdisciplinary Centre for the promotion and development of innovative technology in Switzerland.
Professors, scientists, engineers and students at ESReC are actively cooperating in three SCCER research networks: SCCER Mobility (Capacity Area A1), SCCER Grids and SCCER Storage by performing the following R&D activities:
The overall aim of ESReC is to develop knowledge and technologies essential for the transition towards a sustainable and efficient Swiss energy system.
